A Message From Our Chair
It was 2 a.m., and the ring of the phone startled me from sleep. Filled with dread, I picked up the receiver and heard the news no daughter ever wants to hear. My father, at just 62 years old, had suffered a heart attack. Thanks to excellent medical care, my father recovered. However, I was suddenly faced with heart disease in my family. As a critical care nurse, I had cared for many patients living with heart disease. But I’d never considered myself at risk.
The reality is this. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women and men. In fact, one in every three women will eventually develop heart disease. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement is working to change that. That’s why I’m proud to serve as chair of Acadiana’s 2013 Go Red For Women luncheon – and honored to represent my employer, LHC Group, which has aligned with the American Heart Association as a cause champion of Go Red For Women in our community.
I’m personally asking all women in our community to help me as we work to educate and empower women to take charge of their heart health. We must stand together and fight to find a cure.
Thank you for taking part in Go Red For Women. Women are the caregivers for our families, and, together, we can save lives. Join us as we Go Red -- for our mothers, our daughters, our sisters and ourselves.
Sincerely,
Karen Wyble, RN
VP of Regional Operations, LHC Group
